Hanuman Chalisa
Forty verses of devotion to Hanuman, composed by Tulsidas in Awadhi. Recited daily by millions as a prayer of protection, courage, and surrender. Neem Karoli Baba (Maharajji) called it a mahamantra — a mantra possessing its own divine power.

तुलसीदास
Tulsidas
Goswami Tulsidas (1532–1623) was a poet-saint who lived in Varanasi during the Mughal era. A lifelong devotee of Lord Rama, he is best known for the Ramcharitmanas — a retelling of the Ramayana in Awadhi — and this Chalisa.
Tradition holds that Tulsidas wrote the Hanuman Chalisa while imprisoned by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Through its recitation, an army of monkeys descended upon the prison, and he was freed.
He spent most of his life at the ghats of Varanasi, composing devotional works and serving the poor. His poetry bridges the scholarly and the common — written not in Sanskrit but in the people's tongue, so that anyone could access the divine.
